Prague is one of the beautiful and romantic cities in Europe if not in the world. People say that if European Cities were a necklace, Prague would be a diamond among the pearls! Here are some of our favourite spots and sights in the city.

Charles Bridge

Prague’s oldest bridge was built to replace the Judith Bridge that had been badly damaged by floods in 1342. Construction of the new bridge, originally called Stone Bridge or Prague Bridge, began in 1357 under the auspices of Charles IV and was finished in 1402. Since 1870 the bridge has been called Charles Bridge. It is built of sandstone blocks, flanked at each end by fortified towers (Lesser Town Bridge Towers, Old Town Bridge Tower). From 1683 to 1928, 30 statues of saints were carved to decorate the bridge, the most famous of which is the statue of St John of Nepomuk.

Prague Castle

Prague Castle has been an important symbol of the Czech state for more than a thousand years. It was founded in the 9th century and became the seat of Czech rulers and later presidents. The castle, one of the largest complexes in the world, is made up of historical palaces, offices, church and fortification buildings, gardens and picturesque spots. It covers an area of 45 hectares. The panoramic view of Prague Castle is one of the most spectacular in the world.

Old Town Square

The Old Town Hall was established in 1338 as the seat of the Old Town administration. The oldest part of the complex consists of the southern wing a beautiful Gothic tower with a bay chapel and a unique astronomical clock – known as the Orloj – where, every hour between 9 am and 11 pm, the twelve apostles appear. The Gothic Revival eastern wing of the Town Hall was destroyed during the Prague Uprising on May 8, 1945 and was never rebuilt. The visitor route includes the chapel, historical halls, the underground areas and the tower.

Vyšehrad

According to ancient legends, Vyšehrad is the oldest seat of Czech princes; in fact, the local settlement was established in the mid-10 th century. Situated on a rocky promontory above the Vltava River, it offers stunning views of the city, and the park area holds hidden architectural treasures including the rare Romanesque Rotunda of St Martin, the neo-Gothic Church of Sts Peter and Paul, the national cemetery Slavín, and the underground casements housing the some of the original Baroque statues from the Charles Bridge.

Strahov Monastery

This Premonstratensian monastery was founded in 1140. In the complex there is the church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the rare Strahov Library with a number of medieval manuscripts, maps and globes, the Baroque Theological Hall, the Classical Philosophy Hall decorated with frescoes, and the Strahov Gallery, one of the most significant Central European collections of Gothic painting, Rudolfian art, and Baroque and Rococo paintings.

Kampa Park

This park – an island between the Vltava River and its side branch, Čertovka, where you can see the huge mill wheel of the 15th century former Grand Priory Mill, is one of the most romantic and picturesque places in the city. Not surprisingly, the prestigious traveler's server VirtualTourist declared it the second most beautiful city island in the world. Grassy areas of the island are widely used for picnics and relaxation.

Letná Park

This extensive park with grassy areas, mature trees, a colorful assortment of bushes planted on the hillsides, and a long plane tree-lined avenue provides not only a pleasant to sit and relax, but also unparalleled views of the city, especially from the Hanavský Pavilion - a unique cast-iron building with a restaurant. In the park you can spend your free time participating in sports, walking, picnicking or relaxing in the summer garden restaurant in the Letná chateau in its eastern part.

Public Transport

Prague boasts to have one of the most efficient and cheapest Public Transport networks in the world. You can get the 194 bus from Malostranske Namesti and get at the last stop. Then its a 5 minute walk to our home. From Malostranske Namesti the lines 12, 15, 20 and 22 pas every 3-4 minutes. There is also metro stop in Malostranska a 10 minute walk from Malostranske Namesti. All on the palm of your hand with the PID Litacka App for iOS and Android.

Walking

If you want to enjoy a stroll in nature, you can always walk through the old neighbourhood of Mala Strana straight to our home. Or take the cable car and then its a 10 minute walk to our home (its included in the public transport ticket).
